I painted “Whitney Channels Toulouse-Lautrec” (Pastel, 2020, 17”H x 11”W) in Whitney Master’s Silhouette & Shadow session inspired by Toulouse-Lautrec.
Come join us Friday evening, January 27, at the Palette & Chisel for the reception!
Many thanks to Sandra Burshell, founder of the New Orleans Drawing Group on Zoom, for inviting me to be the Guest Artist after our regular Thursday online drawing session. I was delighted to present my process for creating pastels in my studio, as well as in figure drawing sessions online and in person.

I am delighted to exhibit two pastels: “Max’s Rorshach” (18” x 18”, 2020), which I painted in my studio while classes were held online due to Covid, and “Max at Ten” (12” x 9”, 2022), which I started in a pet portraiture workshop with Pam Hamilton and finished in my Old Town pastel class with Kathleen Putnam Newman. Please join us Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM for the exhibition reception!

"Joyeux Noël" (24"H x 30"W) is included in the 50th annual juried exhibition of the Pastel Society of America -- and won the Wholesale Frame Company Award. The show posted online on September 6, 2022 (https://www.pastelsocietyofamerica.org/.../Ann.../index.html) and is open to the public at the National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South, NYC, from September 12-October 6 (reception on Friday evening, September 16).
As described by PSA President Jimmy Wright in his catalog introduction: "Out of 1,124 anonymous submissions, 123 artists were carefully selected by PSA Master Pastelists Marcia Holmes (LA) and Nancie King Mertz (IL), as well as by the exhibition’s lead juror, PSA Hall of Fame honoree, PSA governor, and IAPS president, Richard McKinley (OR).” My deepest gratitude to the jury of selection and to the juror of awards, Executive Director and Head Curator of the Butler Institute of American Art, Dr. Louis A. Zona. Special thanks to the Wholesale Frame Company for donating my award.
The Chicago Pastel Painters biennial juried member exhibition hangs the month of August at the Palette & Chisel Academy. My thanks to the juror of selections, Kendra Kett. Please join us Sunday afternoon, August 28, for the closing celebration! Here's my piece, "Gazelle Lost in Thought" (19"x13"), painted during a session of the New Orleans Drawing Group over Zoom.
The Chicago chapter of the worldwide Urban Sketchers movement — see the Manifesto on the Urban Sketchers Chicago Facebook page — has been recording and sharing our visual impressions of the area since 2012. This exhibition was originally scheduled to run during the June 2020 seminar – many thanks to the Palette & Chisel for deferring both, twice! The images displayed on these walls reflect scenes from the Before Times, life under Covid (including three of my Procreate “USkAtHome” themed sketches) and the welcome resumption of in-person gatherings.
Please join us at the Opening Reception on Friday, July 8, from 6-8 p.m.!
Evelyn Brody, “USk at Home: Reflection” (Procreate, March 29, 2020)

“The Roar of the Greasepaint” (Pastel, 12” square, 2020)
When Covid hit in spring 2020, pastel artist Sandra Burshell migrated her weekly New Orleans Drawing Group to Zoom, and invited artists (in any media) to join in. Two and a half years later and counting, Sandra’s right-hand person, pastelist Darlene Bigus-Doheny, put out a call to participants and organized a spectacular virtual gallery of works from the first 100 sessions:

Kunstsmatrix has a feature that allows a given participant to collect a display of just her work; my 13 images are available here: https://art.kunstmatrix.com/en/taxonomy/term/115814
I’m delighted to have “The Venus Minuet” (Pastel, 2017, 38” x 27”) appear in this themed exhibit by multiple artists. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 10 AM – 5 PM | Saturday 10 AM – 1 PM
